Please help me on this one...I've tried everything short of a reformat! I just recently uninstalled an ATI TV Tuner that absolutely stunk. During the uninstall, it has to (naturally) wipe out my X1600 drivers and CCC. I've used CCleaner and Driver Cleaner Pro to reinstall the X1600 and CCC stuff, and followed the instructions to the letter. However, this is the problem I now have.

    1) Running the PC at native WSXGA+ resolution
    2) Lock the computer (WinKey+L) or wait for it to go to screen saver w/ password on resume.
    3) Shut the lid of the computer, thus turning off my LCD.
    4) Open up the laptop again
    5) Computer displays a (what appears to be) 800x600 screen, yet I can pan around to view the full 1680x1050!

The only way that I can fix this is to close an reopen the screen after I log back in, or adjust any setting in CCC or the XP display properties. I'm really getting tired of this behavior, but I don't want to reinstall all my stuff again!

    If anyone can help...please!

where did you get the drivers from?

I got them from the link in the gaming section guide sticky. I've tried both Catalyst 6.8 and 6.9 drivers, following the uninstall routine twice. I'm about to try HP's drivers just in case.

i would have tried the factory (HP) drivers first.

start from the basic, then move up.

if the factory drivers have the same problem, then you can move on from a driver issue to possibly something in the BIOS

    ...oops...shame on me.

i'll give them a shot and see what happens...problem is that 6.9 worked fine until I uninstalled the ATI TV Tuner

*NOTE TO SELF: Never own/operate more than one ATI device at any time on any single computer.

...well, I've always thought that using manufacterer's drivers were actually MORE complicated. I never did like any software HP released...two years ago they had a "OS enhancement" package you "had" to have to use the computer.

I went from 45 seconds to boot to 2.5 minutes to boot...and that was with nothing else installed!

still working to clean drivers and reinstall...i'll know soon

Well, the HP drivers DO fix the issue. However, these drivers were released in JUNE of 2006...which means roughly pre-Catalyst 6.8! I'm not to happy about that and might be asking HP if they have any pending driver released for the notebook.

I'm also going to try updating just Catalyst (and not the ATI Display Driver) and see if that works? Any thoughts?

P.S.: I also tried to re-install Catalyst 6.8 & 6.9 by removing BOTH CCC and ADD, and the problem repeated itself. Hopefully, there is a way to have the best of both worlds...6.9 and a proper display.

    interesting

and you didn't have this problem previously even though running the catalyst drivers?

not sure what the fix would be then except what you already mentioned

to be honest, I didn't have the notebook long enough to notice it earlier. I installed Catalyst the day I got it, which was just over a week ago.

when I get home, i'll attach it to my external and see what the results are. maybe the profiles (I think that's what they are) haven't been properly set up...though i doubt it

One thing I prefer about ATI vs nVidia (although I'm ultimately an nVidia person), is you can install JUST the driver without the CCC. I've never seen a need for that extra control crap. Have you tried using just the driver? Current version, slightly older, etc?

i'll give that a shot...fortunately, the default HP drivers only lower my 3dMark05 score by about 50 points. i'm guessing that means i'll see little impact on gaming.

but i'm going to try that right now with the drivers and see if that helps...
