My vote would be for AVG, as I've been using it for quite some time. Previously I had Norton, which was just a pig (and often problematic).

I've heard decent things about Kaspersky, but have never used it. As for Mcafee, they are just as bloated as Norton anymore (IMO).

Kaspersky, NOD32, and BitDefender are the three best paid antivirus programs. NOD32 is the lightest of these, and BitDefender is the heaviest. As R4000 said, Mcafee is fairly bloated, and isn't as good as the others mentioned. AVG is good as far as a free antivirus, and other free alternatives would be either Avast, or Avira's AntiVir.

If you're going McAfee, might as well go Norton.

If you want a more mainstream, but slightly more draining antivirus, go for Trend Micro PC-Cillin.
