Since this is quite a complicated problem to begin with, let me begin with the following scenario:
C:\ drive - Windows Vista
D:\ drive - Recovery partition (visible not hidden)
E:\ drive - Optical drive
I proceed to shrink C:\ drive with Windows Vista's Disk Management so that I get a certain amount of unallocated space. I create the following partition afterward with Disk Management.
F:\ drive - A 100GB partition
G:\ drive - A 50GB partition for Windows XP dual-booting
I popped in the XP disc, and reboot.
So after all the screens here comes the time to select the partition I want XP Setup to use.
But, the letters are messed up!
My G:\ drive which was supposed to be used for Windows XP is now named F:\.
I can carry on with the installation with no problem, but after Windows XP is installed and all done, when I go into Windows XP and My Computer, the Windows XP partition is named F:\, while in Vista it's G:\.
As you know, you cannot reassign the boot drive letter, so I'm stuck with the F:\ for XP. But I want it to be G:\.
Note that the letters are still in order inside Windows Vista.
How?

Same with me, both XP and Vista thinks they are on C drive. No problems though.

Try using A software like Partition Magic to ReAssign the Drive letters.
