I have a primary Partition of Windows XP, and a smaller partition holding Vista on my dell 6400.
I can see most of my files on the XP Partition on Vista, and vice versa, but how would i actually get to those files?
I was also not able to play my music library on the XP Partition on Vista. Why??
-
both partitions are NTFS? if yes, you need to be a part of the owner of the directories for get the files.
-
check ur set up again, any messages coming up when u want to access xp files?
cheers ... -
oh, i see the file folders, but apparently, the size of the folder, "My Music" is 0kb. I can still access all of my music from XP Though..
-
files accessing is interchangeable between xp and vista, unless u have a lock on certain folder/file for any reason
i call xp apps under vista all the time, i even play my xp_solitaire creating a shortcut of it inside vista (just an example)
cheers ... -
Hey, i have another question-
How would I use Microsoft Office 2003 on Vista? I tried launching the application from Program Files on the XP Partition, but sadly, it claimed that its not compatible. -
Have you tried running it in XP compatibility mode? I think it's in the properties. Right-click on your shortcut to the program and click Properties. I think the tab is called Compatibility.

ive tried that- i get the same error. the idea of having to switch between OS-es to complete my homework doesnt appeal to me -.-"

Under vista the "my *" folders aren't folders, they're symbolic links (which is why they have 0KB size). They point to the corresponding folder in Vista (My Music points to something like \Users\<username>\music, I believe)
And for some reason, Vista sets the default permissions on those to prevent access. If you edit the permissions you'll be able to use the folders normally. Otherwise, just look in the real underlying folders that it points to. -
thanks, i got everything working. =]
