Windows 10 computer.
I have lot of documents on my computer. Such as openoffice word and openoffice excel documents. Basically any file on my computer whether its this a word or excel document or pictures or videos you can just click on it and open it without any issue.
Is there a way to put a password on certain documents on my computer? What about a folder with pictures? I did this last time with documents but for some reason, there were 2 of the same document. One required a password to open. The other however did not. I think i used either winrar or 7 zip. So basically it didn't do anything.
The other thing is what about pictures? Let say i have lots of pictures in one big folder. This folder then has subfolders inside etc. Is there a way to put a password on the main photos folder where you have to put a password in order to open it? But once you do, then you can click on any subfolders inside that main folder and open any picture without an issue? I tried this last time with winrar or 7zip and had similar problem. It would require you to put password but then it required you to put the password for every single photo... So its like this. Folder that is called pictures. Then inside pictures, i have lot of folders that are say folder a, b, c, d, e etc. I want to be able to then click on any of these folders then view pictures without having to type in that same password everytime. Because if it required a password to view each photo, then obviously no one will bother with this.
The other thing i thought was if i put a password for my local account as in before logging into my computer, would that be enough and none of this would be necessary? I have no password for my computer so when i turn it on, well everything is there.
Also would there be a quick option to turn off and then turn on the password require for these things? Or there isn't?

How about this simpler way...password protect your admin/owner account and make a folder in your data/my documents folder and move those files there and that way unless some one knows your password they can't access those files. Password protecting you files is a sure fire way to forget them-trust me most people forget their passwords but a Windows password protected is simpler way to prevent unauthorized user from view/opening those files.

StormJumper's method is good but you can encrypt whole directories with 7-zip.

Why don't you have a password for your account login? That's the first thing I'd fix. But just having a password on your account won't be enough; I could easily take your hard drive out of your system, plug it into mine, and now I have access to your stuff without knowing your username/password (full-disk encryption can fix this though).
Anyway, Word and Writer allow you to password protect documents if you like, and 7-zip and the like do have password options. Though personally, I'd go for a more robust solution such as VeraCrypt or some other encryption software. -
