I would like to see a password option on the UAC slider. You have the option to dim the screen into the "secure mode" that you can turn on or off but I would also like to have an option to prompt for a password and forgo the dimmed screen. The password option should be unchecked by default.
Thoughts? I have sent MS some feedback on it and posted on the MS forums but I wanted to see what people here thought.
Would you like the option or not?

I'd like it. and i would force-enable it on all servers..
I know that even people at servers can be too dump to know their stuff

Yeah, I think thats a great idea.
But, no, I wouldnt use it myself. -
You can already set UAC to prompt for a password even for Administrator accounts, using Local Security Policy Editor.
Open Local Security Policy from the Start Menu as an Administrator
Click the triangle beside "Local Policies" on the left part of the window to expand the folder then click the "Security Options" folder.
In the list on the right, scroll down to the User Account Control section
Double click the "User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode" and change the dropdown from "Prompt for consent" to "Prompt for credentials"
Click OK to close the window and close the Local Security Policy Editor. -
I voted yes, and I would even use it too. These days I've grown way too overprotective of my gear, and this would greatly enhance UAC which already makes me feel safer.
Edit: Mac OSX asks all the time for the admin password when installing and doing system-wide changes which I like, so putting that in Windows would be awesome.
Edit #2: Good info booboo!
Edit #3: I'd actually switch it on for standard users only, which it appears to be the default when I looked at the local security policy on my machine. -
Yup. For standard (non-admin) users, Vista already does require an admin password and I assume 7 does too.
If you want the password requirement for an admin user, you can change the setting booboo12 mentioned. In Vista, only Business and Ultimate editions expose this setting unfortunately... there's probably a registry hack for the home editions, and I don't know if it's changed at all in 7... but anyway I agree they should make this setting available in all the editions and easier to access. -
A lot of steps to get it done though. Having a box to check in the UAC Options page would be preferred.
