Hi, for a while now I'm been having this issue whereby my laptop would freeze/pause right after startup. Normally after startup I could click and start a program but 10 to 15 secs after that my laptop would kind of freeze. I could still move the mouse around just that I'm unable to click and open anything for the next 30 to 40 secs. My boot-up time is usually around 45 secs but due to this problem I have to wait for over 2 mins before I could actually do anything. I'm using Vista Business 32-bit by the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you install anything before this problem happened? And is that program set to run as soon as Windows boots up?
-
I had this problem for quite a while now. 6 months to be exact. I can't really recall installing any software that could have cause this issue. I only have 6 programs running at startup and I already disabled all of them but to no avail. Event Viewer (Diagnostics-Performance) also showed up normal with no whatsoever software/hardware conflicts. I've done all the necessary like defragmenting the harddisk/registry and running program like CCleaner.

Try to do a virus scan / spyware scan. It seems as if something is loading when you start up. Check you HDD led when you boot up and when it freezes. If its flickering continuously , something is running.
-
I already did a virus/malwares scan countless times. The HDD led doesn't blink at all during the freeze. It does however flicker continuously right after the freeze but when I checked Event Viewer (Diagnostics-Performance), nothing shows up.

hardwired ethernet (network) or wireless connection?
does the machine behave the same/different with the network on, off, or wired vs. wireless?
device drivers and firmware/bios all up to date?
Is the page space fixed in size or do you allow windows to adjust it? If fixed in size, is it 100% contiguous? -
I'm currently on wireless and it does not make any different even if it is wired. Also my system is up to date and page file is set to auto (windows manage).
In the past I had tried numerous ways to eliminate this issue but to no avail. Things I've done are as listed below:-
1. Disabling the wokstation service.
2. Uninstalling realtek high definition audio
3. Uninstalling graphic driver.
4. Disabling pagefile and superfetch
5. Scanning for virus and malwares.
6. Updating drivers and bios.
7. Disabling all startup programs.
8. Disabling antivirus.
9. Defragmenting the harddisk and registry. -

You could try backing up all your important files and programs and doing a fresh install of your windows os. Then install your programs one by one to see if any of these are causing the problem.

1. Avira Antivir
2. Rainmeter
3. Objectdock
4. Rocketdock
5. ATKMedia (Use to open Windows Media Centre)
6. ATKOSD2 (Asus onscreen display utility)
One interesting thing I noticed is that if I disable Objectdock from the startup, the freezing will temporarily go away for maybe 5 restart. -
Ok try removing Rainmeter, Objectdock, Rocketdock and see if it helps

Try it first, do a back up of your themes. One more thing, did you do a HDD Checkdisk and Memory Test?
-
Ok, I'll give it a try. Both Hdd Checkdisk and Memory Test turned out OK. -
Oh are you using a Realtek HD Driver? I just installed it on my machine and I noticed a slow down when logging in.
-
You can always do a reinstall of the OS. Go the upgrade path. Windows is installed and your Windows folder is renamed to .old. Your installed programs are untouched.
After that you have to reapply all windows update. I think you also have to activate Windows after installation.
In case something goes wrong, do a image backup of the OS partition before install, just to be save.
Good luck. -

I read from another forum that Realtek HD Driver was the cause of the freeze issue and that uninstalling it would solve the problem. However that's not the case for me.
There are basically 2 audio output jacks on my laptop. The headphone output jack which I connect my external speaker to and the SPDIF output jack which I use to connect my headphone. After I uninstalled Realtek HD Driver, I noticed that my laptop only freeze for 3 secs after startup but the SPDIF output jack cease to work. I even got a BSOD when I restarted my laptop.
I'm almost certain that Realtek HD Driver was the root of the problem but the thing is I need this software in order for my SPDIF output jack to work properly. -

Have you EVER had any network mapped drive(s)? Open Windows Explorer. If the menu bar does not show, hit the alt key and it will appear. Under tools click on "Disconnect Network Drive". Do you see any mapped drive(s) there? If you do and this drive(s) are not available at bootup/login time they will cause a significant delay waiting for the connection to timeout.

No, I don't have any mapped drive. I even disabled the workstation service but to no avail. -
deinstall the eye candy and report back.
-
Already done that. Initially it seems to be working but after the 4th restart the freeze is back again. -

I believe I mentioned on my 1st post that I'm using Vista Business 32-bit. Anyway, even if I have the full install disc for Vista, reinstalling the OS would be the last thing I'll do. -

I finally managed to resolve the pause/freeze issue on my laptop. What I did was simply installed an older version of the realtek high definition audio (the one that came with my laptop). The driver is almost 2 years old but work just fine. Been using it for more than 2 weeks now and thankfully, everything is fine and best of all the pause/freeze issue is gone
