A family member of mine has just asked me to set up some kind of monitoring software on her computer. She just wants to see what her kids are doing for now. The big thing is is that one of her kids is using an administrative account, so he can just uninstall or disable whatever is being used, as I'm assuming he knows how. I know I can strip his account privileges but I dont want to tip him off, yet.

Would any one here know of any suitable software to monitor at the least web history? It has to be hidden and everything must be password protected. And preferably free, but if it has a free trial that is fine, just as long as the trial version doesn't give itself away.

I have looked so far at pc acme, but the trial version gave itself away and let the user know they were being monitored. There have been a couple others like that as well, and a few that don't even have trials.

    Thank You,

    Tim

Why hide the monitoring. just knowing that their folks are 'in the know' about where the computer is cruising (and the who/when) should be enough to scare the bejesus out of them.

Tried netnanny? it has all your needs

No need for it to be stealth if its for kids. Knowing that theres a program watching them is enough to ward them off.

I think you'll find a few "business tools" that are designed to monitor work computers that cn be 100% invisble - I don't have any nbmes handy though :(

If you don't take away the kid's administrative privileges and he/she is computer savvy it won't be long before your manipulations are discovered. It was a mistake for the parents to give the kid full administrative privileges to begin with, so they can start correcting that mistake by changing his account to a regular or restricted account as soon as possible.
