I made 204 MB ram disk for Mozilla Firefox (yeah, I know that I can set it to use RAM but in this case it will not save that cache and I always will download the same again and again every time I start FF). However because of NTFS format I formatted ramdisk drive I have only 184 MB free space from the beginning. I understand that 16MB reserved place for MFT is not so much but it is my RAM!
So my question of the Day... I mean My question is: How can I reduce it?
If I format it to FAT or FAT32 will this be OK? Will it reduce speed significantly? Or Maybe there is a way to reduce size of MFT in NTFS?
P.S. Another question is: What cluster size is good formatting that virtual disk? I know that minimal sector of RAM is 4KB so I format disk to the same size cluster.
P.P.S. Just if someone is not lazy to answer more - Can it theoretically have any alignment problem?

Most of your questions could best be answered(and you could learn sumpin') by just trying the things you listed. Yes, you can probably format for FAT/FAT32, and try different cluster sizes for NTFS. As far as RAM, your footer indicates you have 6G. So, expand your ramdisk a bit; won't make any difference from say 204MB to 300MB.

Yep, I figured that no one will help to drowner except drowner will help himself.
You are correct that looking at my 6GB RAM i can let myself increase it from 200 to 300 easily. I even made it 850MB in the past. The only problem is that I always set RamDisk to save and load image of that disk shutting down and starting up. So it took much time (more than you could think calculating speed about 60 MB/sec because it works slower)
Yesterday I made some tests and that's what I found (in any case someone read or need this).
NTFS: you need to add 4MB to a size of created disk you want to see. If you want to see 200MB disk you should move 204MB of RAM. However even in that case it will take 16MB or even more for MFT. If U gonna use it for internet cache (MANY little files) size of MFT will increase. So I decided to use FAT16.
FAT16. First of all I was pleased to see that I need to add only 1MB extra to a size of disk I want to create: 200MB = 201MB. Not big deal you say? I answer that I better use it for my eBoostr Pro (1250MB in use of RAM). Another good news for me was that from that 200MB I got... 200MB free space! So I could even put a mini paging file 30MB size because I do not use paging file on HDD at all. And it prevents me from "Not enough memory!" alerts. Good isn't it? And all that takes the same time for starting up and shutting down computer as before!
I did quick test using HDtune Pro which gave me access time from 0.011 to 0.016 milliseconds and 3300-3500 MB/sec avg read speed. But I do not remember results of NTFS format RamDisk. I believe that it has so good results that even if NTFS is faster 3 times in access time I will not notice that.

people get obsessed about the funniest things.....

Well frankly speaking for me being obsessed for computer or IT at all while there are many other things around is even more than funny (I'd even call it sad) but still on the other hand it doesn't mean that something connected to my new and fast laptop can't interest me and even for long period of time.....
People who use RAMDisk or know smth about changing MFT!
