My HP Pavilion notebook running Vista Home Premium suddenly slowed down and the fan runs non-stop now. It crashes about once a day now, the blue screen of death-style crashes. Also, it sometimes takes several minutes for it to respond when I try to open a program or switch windows. I've swept for malware/spyware and viruses, and it's clean... Any ideas? I'm just sick of wondering if and when my computer will work properly and when it'll freak out.

    Specs:

    1.8Ghz Centrino duo
    1 GB DDR
    120 GB HDD
Vista Home Premium (haven't installed any service packs)

keep an eye on what processes are running and when your comp slows down check the process and report back.

Following your advice nocturnal, I have 12 svchosts running. 3 of them are running under system, 3 are running under network, and the rest are under local something. What should be done here?

disable some services...read the tweaks guide, it has instructions.
