How can I display a picture in a clean window, free of surrounding clutter? This was possible with the old Microsoft system.

When I click on a picture with Vista Home Premium, Windows Photo Gallery opens and the picture is surrounded by heavy borders at top and bottom, and a clutter of function symbols, that is distracting. Only "Play Slide Show" will display a picture full-screen and free of clutter, but then you have no control because all pictures are shown in random order, not even starting with the selected one.

Is there som fast and easy way to display a picture in clean full-screen?

It shouldn't be in a random order when you view slide show, is your shuffle turned on in the slide show settings? If that doesn't fix it, you could always open it in paint and click on View Bitmap.

Without doing a lot of digging, I can only suggest installing InfranView.

I often use IE or Firefox as a simple picture viewer. Just drag the file to a browser window, or associate the file type with FF or IE. Maybe it's not zero-clutter, but it's much less clutter, and you can maximize or press F11 to go full-screen if you want. In IE you can zoom in as well. I'm not sure if that's what you wanted or not.

Another option is to use MS Paint, and use the View menu to turn off the color box and toolbox.

Thanks. :) All three posts were helpful!

From a quick look InfranView has some useful features!
Is it possible to remove the Browse Subfolders window that pops up across the screen whenever the last picture of a folder is reached, and asks you to choose between "Use folder' or "Cancel"? It is annoying and stalls the viewing, besides covering over the last picture . Better if it was possible to just flip backwards immediately once you reach the end.

    WARNING!

InfranView may be dangerous to your computor. It seems to have virus. When I downloaded I was warned that hostile elements tried to break down the protections in Explorer. After downloading, other programs had been downloaded as well. Among them a freak version Google. After that downloading pages became very slow or stopped. When I tried to use Avast, it stuck and refused to work. Finally I uninstalled Avast, and downloaded it once more, and now things seem to work smoothly again.

It's most likely that you downloaded it from an unsafe site. InfranView is a safe program.
