    Hey there

I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS2, every time I open a file from the folder it's in Photoshop gets to "initializing..." and then just crashes, it stops responding and the dialog box in the middle just goes white...

This happens in both XP and Vista and I've tried shutting down all background apps and it still happens.

The only way I can stop it crashing is by holding CTRL+SHIFT+ALT and saying yes to the message that appears.

I basically have to restart my notebook everytime if I forget because Photoshop won't close itself.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue. I have photoshop on an Acer 9302 with a single core AMD Turion 64 CPU and an nVidia Geforce GO 6100 and it works fine on that, I've never had a problem with it.

But the problem is on my new Asus M70VM with an Intel P8400 C2D CPU and an nVidia Geforce 9600M GS and I can't seem to solve it...

Thanks in advance for any help on this. :)

Ok thanks for that, I don't have a printer and I'm already trying the ctrl+shift+alt method. But it keeps happening unless I do that everytime I open a file.

Maybe it's font and/or plugin problem.. Have you installed plugins and/or fonts recently?

@ Raven: If troubleshooting the issue above does not work for you, you may be the victim of a bad install. I have had to reinstall my photoshop numerous times every time I format my laptop. For some reason it can be very problematic and cause weird issues when opening, etc. If you uninstall and ccleaner, then reinstall off a fresh boot up, that usually works for me.

If the above (tips from ATG / gengerald) don't solve your issue, try booting into safe mode and uncheck all items related to photoshop from starting up along with windows startup.. or may be you could try checking even booting normally, from msconfig and also check in services.msc to see / disable any photoshop components from starting up automatically.

For me usually, I uninstall (recently I have started doing it with revouninstaller) > ccleaner > restart > reinstall completely (in XP).. it works.

Also, have you checked for the event log files (in applications or system probably) to see if you can get more specific details on the crash??? that would help a lot I guess.

Ah ok, I guess it's a reinstall. Bit of a pain but I guess it'll be worth it. I would check the event log but I don't know what I'm looking for, come to think of it I don't even know how to access the event log...

You can find the event logs in the administrative tools.
