i have photoshop cs3, from the adobe master collection (major graphics guru :) )
and i know there are some speed issues with cs3 and vista, but mine isnt quite like that. it loads in approx. 3 seconds, and opens pictures swiftly, and runs like lightning for about 5 minutes and then it starts becoming quite choppy...the selection tools lag around as well as the paint tools (cant even get a smooth motion). it doesnt slow the whole computer down, just that program. i looked at the cpu usage during the lag down and it was 50-51%, which i believe is way to high. is this because cs3 cannot take advantage of the other core so its maxing out one causing the slowdown? its only using around 200 mb of ram

    i have a vostro 1500

    c2d t7300
    2gb ram
    8600m gt

    wait...

there is some trick you might wanna try first.
you can reset photoshops preferences to factory settings. sometimes this even helps with new installations.

during photoshop startup keep Ctrl-Alt-Shift pressed (long enough) , and you will get a window popping up that asks you to reset the preferences.

you should try that first. it helped me once.
