I have a 15.4" DV5000t. All of the programs I have to play movies on this will leave about an inch of black space at the top and bottom when I am watching a movie. Normal software will stretch a fullscreen movie to the sides so why not to the top and bottom. Are there any programs that will play a widescreen movie that will stretch the player to fill the whole screen? Are any of these free? Thank you for your time.

I highly recommend Power DVD which has many settings including 'Smart Stretch' to take up the entire screen. It is equivalent to widescreen zoom on a plasma TV.

It came free with my external DVD burner. I don't know the retail price for a full version. I surmise $50. That is in the upper limits of what I would pay.

Haha, FYI not all "widescreen" movies are created equal. Depending on your screen dimensions, check out the movie box. If it says "Widescreen 2.4 (or 2.35...etc):1" it will have bars on the screen. That is the way it was intended to watch...as drumfu said.

On the other hand, if it says ~1.85:1, then it should fill the screen. If it doesn't , then it is indeed probably a software issue.

Check it out, and I hope you solve your problem.

Most software wont do this because not only does it look bad, but there's a performance issue with having to stretch the image in odd ratios.
