ok, so I gave vista the boot today on my xps m1530....only problem now is that xp won't boot.
ok well theres more to it than that. I used gparted to rearrange my partitions. XP was a 30gb partition ( D: ) and vista was 200gb ( C: ) i deleted vista and grew the XP partition to 230gb.....now xp is labelled C: and it won't boot. Is it just looking for the files in the wrong places?

Did XP boot fine before you expanded the partition?

this link might help you out..
you lost your MATER BOOT RECORD... it was a part of the C: partition (which was vista,, and has been deleted..)

i just gave vista the boot. its xp only now. theres really no reason i would want vista if i have xp installed beside it.

The Master Boot Record as described above is needed to tell your system which operating systems it can choose to boot from. You need to restore this using the link provided by bigozone and that should fix your problem.
Please post back to let us know how it goes.
