With all the news articles I've been seeing about it, many talking of it rejuvenating browser wars and similar, I wondered how many of the technorati here have actually tried Chrome, and how many still use it. Based on the people I know in real life it's reach seemed decent but not huge as a lot of the media portrays it. So I figured I'd ask this relatively technical audience.
As for myself, I tried it, was rather fascinated by each tab having its own process in Task Manager and the about:memory tab, and satisfied with its speed, but found it quite lacking in features at this stage.

Right now I am using Opera. Granted it is getting bigger than what it was before but i still like Opera. But I plan on trying Chrome onc some patches come out.
-
Chrome is my default browser on my vista but on my xp it's still firefox. Waiting for Ad Block Plus but Privoxy will work in the meantime.
-
I use linux because my pc is slow in windows. Chrome isn't on linux so I don't use it, even when I can emulate it from wine, it uses a lot of ram but it isn't unstable it's really fast but it's made for new pc's. Firefox uses a lot but not as much as chrome in linux
-
I'm still leary of it. The speed is nice, they did well. But I'm waiting for some in depth third party analysis before I use it. I'd like to know what "restrict how third party cookies are used" means. I'd like to know why chrome.exe writes into the 'system volume information' directory when Chrome is idle.
In any event, IE has it's advantages in XP Pro with group policy templates, and IE6 SP3 uses the least RAM of any browser I know, is still updated, and is still supported across the web. I tested ten windows open in IE6 against the same ten pages open in tabs in Chrome. IE6 was using 50 MB, Chrome about 175 MB. Total system memory was 125 MB compared to 250 MB. I was an Opera user but version 9.52 will use cookies even when cookies are shut off. Hopefully that changes with newer versions because I do like its configurability. -
Yes, and it's now my primary browser
And the reason it is my default is because its fast, simple and because of the individual processes per tab. -
I'm waiting for the final release. Until then, FF3 for me.
-
The only reason IE is so RAM "efficient" is because it's integrated into the OS... built in. If IE were just some 3rd Party browser like Chrome or FF, it'd seem just as RAM hungry. -
-
I don't want to come off as some IE6 fanboy. Just pointing out the RAM difference.
I did find what 'restrict how third party cookies can be used' means. According to Google's help pages for Chrome:

I was using it primarily in XP and loved it. However, i have since switch to Vista x64 and it didnt work very well in it(couldn't import my favorites and stuff), so I am using IE7 in the mean time.
-
yes, and now its my primary browser
-
I will love to use it as my primary browser but I just can't at this moment. It's lacking a good bit of add-ons such as java support and flash and a host of other features. As soon as these limitations are addressed and it's actually stable then I will be using it as my primary browser most definitely! Until then i'll be using it along side IE7...It gets an 8/10 for me as is though...i'd use it over the most over hyped, over-rated browser FF any day.
-
I like chrome most visited as the home page because you can tab your most visited from it and then tab back to use the search engine if need be after reading an article in one of those other tabs and needing more info.
And I love IE 8 how it has add ons, where you just highlight a word in an article that's got you baffled then right click it to select the merriam-webster dictionary, which I've been saying for years there should be a dictionary in browsers or high light full paragraphs of different languages to be translated with the translator.
I suppose they couldn't all work together and come out with one browser that has all the bling, since they're free anyway! -
Not bad, but still using Firefox but not bad. It's a nice option to have.
-
And I don't think I've seen Chrome crash on me yet.
For me the main issue is that scrolling with my mouse wheel is very jumpy in Chrome. -
Nothing can convince me to leave Firefox ...
i just drag & drop text or images to search them ...i dont actually type or copy paste anything. -
I would use it more but there are two issues I would need to see resolved. First, I keep getting some memory error about memory which is unable to be read. If this error came up in other app, it would be toast (it is the kind of error one gets when firefox dies). It doesn't crash Chrome, but it pisses me off. Second, I am not 100% sure about my privacy with google. I get the feeling like I am being watched or at least my details are being stored. This hasn't stopped me from using Gmail as my main email address, but when top google employees come out and say things like 'Privacy is dead' I get to wondering....
-
Also annoying is when I have a flash applet up and for some reason the whole app gets selected (like selecting text with a click and drag) and no matter where you click, the flash applet is still selected. I fully expect that bug to be worked out soon, but it is one more reason I still use Firefox for mission critical work.
-
WHAT!!! Chrome never crashed on you!..hold up...now I love Chrome, but it has limitations as I mentioned; java and a particular flash don't work for me in Chrome. Try playing a yahoo game that uses java and let me know if you get through. And Chrome crashes on me like everyday. I guess that could be because i'm running a Pentium 4 processor w/ 512MB of RAM and have like 4 tabs opened at a time..IDK but it crashes....Now as I said, I love Chrome, but i'm just being honest here..from my experiences...I can't wait for these issues to get sorted out so I can use it primarily.
Edit: Flash works for me now..I guess the latest .30 update fixed that! But still have issues playing yahoo pool. -
I haven't tried out Google Chrome..yet..but plan to sometime in the near future ~ just to test it out!
I do like FF3 very much, though!

Chome has crashed a total of 1 time so far.
Also, it should be noted, it's a LOT faster than the other browsers at most tasks. I still use Firefox and IE when necessary, but I prefer Chrome. -
Google Chrome FTW!
-
i downloaded chrome on a school computer first, just in case
,i didnt like it, but its safe to say the school computer didnt die yet, im happy with firefox as it is, so theres no real reason for me to change. chrome was just to simplistic for my liking.
-
Is it open-source? If not, I'd rather not let Google take control of my web browser, it's bad enough as it is with Google keeping track of web activities...
-
Yes it is open source.
-
Still, my philosophy is to never put all eggs in one basket. It was bad enough when Microsoft threw out Netscape, now Google wants to do the same. Microsoft should stick to making an OS and Google should stick to making web services and keep out of people's computers...
-
I do not use Google Chrome and I do not ever plan to in the future, due to already using Firefox and being happy with it, and Google Chrome's agressive EULA, as seen in this site:

Tried Chrome.....was not too impressed though...
Switched back to I.E. 7
Happy again -
Funny you say that TeeJay...I'm an IE7 fan, but i've fell in love w/ Chrome; and i'm actually waiting for it to be stable so I can ditch IE. As the saying goes to each their own.
BTW, what's up w/ Safari on the poll?!?! No Mac users on here to represent...... -
I tried it but did not find it faster than Opera.
My most used browsers are:
1 Opera (for speed, scrolling, best adblock)
2 Firefox (better forms an password control)
3 IE -

...though I don't know why anyone would want to use Safari...
And I'm all for Chrome - it loads faster than Firefox for me, and that's all I care about. -
I was very cautious when I heard about Google's new browser. At first I refused to try it then last night, I finally took the plunge.
I have been a Mozilla fanboy for the past couple years and to be honest, I LOVE CHROME!
Pages render faster, and I like the minimalist GUI design. I am not a big fan of plug-in's and I find Chrome is just a faster browser in terms of both rendering and memory usage. -
Memory usage? No. Chrome uses more because of individual processes.
You can't call yourself a Firefox Fanboy and not use add-ons. -
Chrome is great and all, definitely more favorable than IE but I just dont see how it has the customization and power that FF has. At least not yet. I know it's Google, a lot of us love Google but this is their first shot at a browser so its not perfect yet (how they beat Microsoft in 1 shot is beyond me though).
FF it is for now, its safe and I enjoy using it. I also get this awkward feeling of Chrome doing things in the background I dont know about...so I didn't install it with this latest reformat. -
Anyone know when the final version will be ready?
I'm not much of a beta person. -
So never? Haha -
Looks like a great concept but its a bit too simple for me - I like my FF addons
-
Chrome is coming out with add-ons as well hopefully relatively soon. -

i dun really get the "most used websites" thingy...i still prefer the speed dial from opera. but yes..chrome indeed loads websites faster.

So far 21% of people who've tried it are still using it at least as a tied-for-primary browser. More than I expected really. Considering that about 7 times as many people are using non-IE browsers as in the general populace (based on those still using their previous browser) that's about 3% of the general populace expected once it settles in, assuming it will become more widely known with time. Decent, but I'll hazard my guess that this indicates that it won't be the web-browser-changer that the mainstream press is writing about, at least not in its current form. -
I pay per MB so it suits me better and is cheaper (for me).
Cached pages, etc and technical data sites I have visited

I downloaded it yesterday and am tinkering around with it. Got fed up with all the crashes Firefox 3.0.3 was having so I downgraded to 2.0.0.17 and decided to give chrome a whirl while I was at it.
I like it alot. I'm using it right now in fact. It's got a nice clean cut design, and I was impressed that it came with flashplugins by default So not having to close the browser in the middle of doing multiple things because I want to watch a youtube video and had the audacity to forget to download a plugin is a plus.
Right now I'm using Chrome and Firefox 2.0.0.17 equally, also use Opera 9.5 now and then.
Chrome's incognito mode is cool too
