Curious as to how quickly the fairly tech-savvy people here have or have not upgraded to the newest service packs. A question of must have the latest or always keep Windows up-to-date, versus wait and see how it is or too lazy to bother upgrading.
I fall in the latter these days - so long as my current software is working well and the next version seems pretty similar, I'll be lazy and wait to upgrade. Mixed experiences with how much new versions improve also causes a bit of that, even though with service packs I've never really noticed changes.
7-day poll due to the obvious effect of time on the votes.

I have upgraded on some of my PCs, but not all, mainly due to the fact I like to put service packs onto a fresh install, and I don't have time to reload some of them. I actually doubt I will go out of my way to do it as there seems to be very little benefit for both XP SP3 and Vista SP1, Win2k on the other hand I always install SP4 as nothing supports it anymore without it.

I've downloaded but not installed Vista SP1 just because i read that sp1 would make DVD43 unfunctional, a program that i really need. Besides, i don't actually need this service pack right now. I haven't encountered any of the vista problems a lot of people are complaining about.

I have both Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3.
-
Yes, I have upgraded to SP3. Though I did want to do a clean install so there was little reason not to -- I had nothing to lose and what I'd read of it on the internet sounded good.
-
"Yes, I have Vista SP1"
-
Yeah, I always keep Windows up to date
-
P.S. Yes, it does make a difference in stability and overall performance when it's integrated or applied later. -
Vista SP1 on some personal machines, and XP SP3 on my work machine. I didnt upgrade to SP3 in one of my VM's because I hear Parallel's doesnt like it too much
-
I downloaded XP SP3, and it screwed my computer all up. I even uninstalled the SP, but the problems it caused still remain. For the last two months, I've been telling myself that I was just going to start over with that drive, but I have not been able to bring myself to reinstalling everything. I'm still afraid of what it may do to my Vista drive (dual-booting).
-
i installed all the updates except sp1, mainly because it never popped up in the auto updates so that means one of my drivers is not compatible
-
I love having the latest and greatest so it's natural for me to want to have Vista SP1 and XP SP3.
-
I have Vista SP1 at home and XP SP3 at work.
I was wondering, why would somebody not install the latest service pack for reasons other than "I'm too lazy" or "I don't have internet". AFAIK, both XP SP3 and Vista SP1 provide needed updates and there doesn't seem to be any reason why you would not want to install them... -
I have SP1 on my m1330, and DVD43, and DVD43 is running fine!
Not sure where you heard that, maybe they've released a new version? (I just reinstalled DVD43 on my one month old Dell yesterday, so if they've come out with a newer version, I'm sure that's the one I'm using).
In any case, you shouldn't have to skip SP1 because of a concern over DVD43. -
I have vista 32 bit running sp1.
-
I have SP1 on Vista, works great.
-
yep, Vista Ultimate SP1 + XP Pro SP3
-
Nope, I dun feel like screwing up my computer yet.. maybe after august I'll do just that.
-
Absolutely, I always do, my second name is; up2date
