    i have an application that i want to reinstall again when i do a complete OS reinstall. however, i could not find its installation cd. now my question is, is it possible that i can reinstall it again without the installation cd but by just copying the content of that application from the program files to my external HD?

    if this is not possible... i may have to wait for the time that i can find my cd.... :(

    It varies from application to application. What program is this?

    Most likely no. The majority of applications have files inside system folders and registry entries. If you can find them and copy all those, then it should work, but otherwise....

    X :/Program Files/ (put program brand or filename here)

    (X denotes your drive letter where Windows reside)

    and Start ->run -> regedit

    for the registry.

    Oh btw, as hehe299792458 mentioned, this might not work out as Windows might not recognise the files from another Windows installation.

    good luck!

    A quick way to check would be to copy the program folder by itself onto a USB key and try running the program's .exe file off the key.

    maybe there is something about your program that insists on looking for a specific file/action/program to run that is directed to the directory of the external harddrive.

    i'm sorry but you cannot do anything about it.

    i have experienced this too.. when i was using ACL7 (auditing) and copied the program from the external HDD. the program worked pretty well in my laptop but when i tried to edit the 4GB data file (also copied from the external hdd), the program insists on saying that it cannot read it because the saved file has some kind of stamp or something that it is located in the external hdd, whatever the letter drive was, i forgot.. so... iyak-tawa na lang. i started back from scratch to create that 4GB file.
