I need to perform a clean install of Vista on my notebook, but I have Word 2007 setup just right for my usage. I can't seem to find a (free) utility that can do this, I'm looking for something like MozBackup, only for Office/Word 2007.
Anyone have any advise or recommendations? I used to be able to do this in Office 2003, but Microsoft has removed this function for some reason. Is it possible to isolate settings through the Backup and Restore program built into Vista?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

well, you should backup everything in your %appdata% microsoft \ office \ word (or similar) folder..
other than that, i don't know if it stores additional info somewhere, sorry.. -
Thanks, I'll save those files for now. I wish there was a more streamlined way from Microsoft to achieve a backup of all Office settings.

Theres a built-in tool for that, go to Program files > Microsoft Office Tools > Save my settings wizard
But the other method suggested works too. -
Are you talking about Office 2003 or 2007? I've not been able to find the Save My Settings Wizard in 2007, and everything that I've read indicates that Microsoft deleted it.
I've found a different program in Vista that can accomplish the same task. Windows Easy Transfer can be used to save files, settings, etc., in case anyone else stumbles across this. -
Does anyone know how well the 2007 Windows Easy Transfer actually works? I tried the 2003 Save My Settings Wizard a couple of times and it did not save quite a few of my settings. In fact, it actually caused more frustration than satisfaction. I hope the 2007 Windows Easy Transfer app works better than that. Anyone know?

For Microsoft office, Windows Easy transfer seems to work pretty well on my end. I've only used it twice though. I've been meaning to spend some more time with it and I keep getting distracted.

What settings? In some cases, what some people call "settings" are really templates.
Saving the template saves the "settings" -
What settings??? I'm referring to all of the settings that customize the MS Word page, not to mention the 100 or so Word Options settings that control how you utilize productivity, not to mention the 50 or so Quick Access Toolbar icon settings, Not to mention the general MS Word Theme and scheme, and color and font settings, and. . .
-
So how was the transfer? I just tried it with Windows Easy Transfer and it looks like all my Office 2007 settings were transfered with it.

Easy Transfer did not work for me
I don't know what I did wrong, but when I try to restore I get a message telling me to "Insert first disk into drive". This is reading from a usb drive, copying the backup file to the hard drive doesn't work either.
I spent an hour searching Google for a solution to my problem, it seems rather common, and there is no way to fix it. Then I spent another hour changing my defaults and settings manually. -
Man, that stinks. I hope your new installation actually got the Office "Save my Settings" wizard working though.
-
Where are you finding the Save My Settings Wizard in Office 2007? Everything that I've found on Google explains that it was removed from Office 2003 and rolled into the Windows Easy Transfer program. Are you using 2003 or 2007?
-
Oh snap. I just assumed Office 2007 had the save my settings wizard also.
Looks like Easy Transfer and the USMT are the ONLY methods now.
Possible to backup Word/Office 2007 settings?
