Anyone know how much overhead "XP Mode" will consume? Will it be possible to game with XP mode on games like Battlefield 2?

ive currently set the comptability mode to Vista playing BF2, theres tons of issues with Punkbuster and x64 systems and windows 7...I still get kicked because of windows API errors after connecting to even 64Bit servers! and Ive already tried pbtoolv1, windows services, running as admin, etc.

PS- Redwings just got owned in 3OT sorry homie!

I think he is talking about virtual XP mode in Windows 7 business and above. From what I have seen so far no, it's to help business transition into Windows 7 better. It's like running XP in a virtual machine, so no good for games. It requires 2 gigs of RAM and apparently a CPU that has chip level virtualization support.

I think Darkness is likely correct.

In case it's not been mentioned, the Windows XP Mode Beta is now available for download to Technet and MSDN subscribers. I've downloaded it but haven't gotten around to installing it. It can be found in the Subscriber Downloads area under Applications-->Windows Virtual PC. Both x86 and x64 are there for download. It requires Win 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate. Doesn't look like it'll run on Home Premium.

This is more about helping businesses that have very important XP-only business software move to Windows 7. This XP Mode is based off of Virtual PC, so no 3D acceleration.

Gaming on virtual machines is more likely to come from companies like VMware, although that is experimental and underdeveloped.
