Here's how to measure it: download boottimer.exe and run it. Make a screenshot with ctrl-alt-prt scr. Post the screenshot and copy the list and add yourself to the list.
Don't forget to unticked the box 'always ask before opening this file'.
I'll start. Here's my boot time:

I get 94 seconds , I keep my c: drive fully defaged and optimized with puran defag so i dont know why it is so slow, also i only have a couple of items in my starup.
EDIT : I disabled all startup item and got 90 seconds
EDIT : I defraged the bootfiles and got 84 seconds. -
Hmm yeah, one thing I don't like so much about boottimer is that it seems to hang when the boot is already finished.
Maybe there is a better way to measure boottime? -

there is the reboot script somewhere in this forum which doesn't wait for everything to got loaded, but just check till logon. -
Dave what do you get with your Intel SSD with boottimer?
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
i'm not at home right now -
This vbs script doesnt wait for any program, it shows right after login:

we tested here a system that boots in 80s. after that, it still takes around 5 minutes more to just open up ie7 and outlook 2007..
so which one is the experienced boot time? the 80s? or the actual around >400sec it took in reality till the system got responsive (not even fast yet). -
Well for now let's just use Boottimer.exe.
I'd like to see some SSD scores. -
Well i think its more fair to measure the OS' boot time and not my apps, because i have quite a ****load and some are delayed etc.
-
Yeah good point. Let's use this script.
Thread is now renamed to 'Post you Reboot Times'.
How much is you reboot time? -
Booting takes an average time of 40-43 seconds. Avira & Synaptics are the only startup programs. -
After saving boot-timer to desktop, right click on it and select properties>unblock>apply
When you are finished playing with this, make sure to type msconfig and hit enter in start menu and uncheck this as a startup program under startup tab in msconfig. -
I ran the vbs file you attached and it says 40 seconds with wireless switch off and 42 with wireless switch on. Intel T7500 2.2 GHz, Scorpio Blue 500 and 2 Gb RAM.

Nice score sgilmore62.
I actually like Boottimer.exe more so let's keep using that. (yeah changed my mind again sorry about that)
I'll keep track of the scores.
1. sgilmore62 20.607
2. phil 25.864

This one is with all services and startup processes disabled. That may be the cleanest way of comparing.
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
exactly, which does exactly the same, just from a different place of the ui. -
This is boottime with Aero theme ON. Disabling Aero should shave a few seconds from startup.

1. sgilmore62 - 20.607
2. phil - 23.088 *
3. Twiz57 - 23.368

No that's the crappy NR310. I left the Z at work. I think bios boot makes a diff. some laptops wait longer than others for enter bios input.
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
my laptop boot time will be slow anyways. bios takes some seconds, and during the win7 animation part, the system idles for exactly what? 10 seconds? or 20?? doing nothing. as some crappy hw in there happens to block my boot during that time (i think network related.. i could physically plug out my network card once.. hm..i could try that..).
the rest of the boot is very fast.
i'll post my 3 system numbers once my third system is up and running again. -
I think boottimer.exe does not include BIOS post time.
-
This is the Classic theme boottime. It takes longer actually, no wallpaper to load also.
-
I think if I still had the Intel X-25V with fresh install it would be around 10 seconds. I am getting 45 seconds with the Restart-Time with Summit and was getting 35 seconds with X-25V. The best with Summit was 38 seconds but for some reason my Restart - Times are higher. Maybe it is because this build has been imaged from an image several times over.

this one is a proof for that.
and if not, i still get bad points on the laptop for the explained reason.
media center is quite fast, though..(with an x25-v)

If you select a solid color background for performance like with XP, Windows will hang at startup screen for some seconds. The work around is to create a solid color image with paint and select it for desktop background.
-
For the discussion of what performs better, Aero or Classic refer to here:

Erhm.. -
Phil what services did you disable?
EDIT: Seems like Snapit tool doesn't catch Aero. At least it looks like that. -
I disabled all services and startup processes in MSConfig by clicking 'disable all'.
-
Disabled all startup entries. Before it was 80 secs? :| -
that is my boot time on my old G51VX-X1A with most (not all) services disabled. I'll post my boot time of my desktop when I can get some free time to do so. this is on my 2.66ghz Core i5 750 @ stock speeds.
and here is after switching my win7 to SATA mode (I guess because I used an IDE DVD Drive to install win7 it decided it should install in IDE mode)
note: this is also with the classic theme turned on. My HDD is a cheap WD Blue 250GB HDD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136113
just goes to show that HDD speed is what really matters here I guess, as my run for my previous CPU was at 2.53GHz stock speed. Will test again later with my system at 4.0GHz and ram at 1900mhz -
Dunno how u guys show pictures in posts....but there's mine
Intel X25-m G2 just installed today. -
Nice boot time BTW. -
This is my normal boot, everything enabled gadgets & Rainelendar 2.0 lite & HP L7800 Network printer digital driver software etc, This on Asus U81-a and 7K500. I don't see a reason to post times that aren't under your normal real system usage. 37.268 seconds............
I was faster but HP came up with the full software suite for the L7800 and Win7 and I've installed Rainelendar. I also added 4 gadgets too but before that on a watch I was timing 34 seconds............
Edit;
added my best boot time after a few more attempts, same config, 35.287 Seconds -
-
@Phil maybe you could edit first post and make a top 10. -
I got 39 seconds on my scorpio blue.
My boot loader might have affected the boot time -
1. crzytimes 13.681
2. sgilmore62 - 20.607
3. phil - 23.088
4. Twiz57 - 23.368
5. EIement - 27.237
6. grbac - 30.030
7. REB! - 34.803
8. flipfire - 39
(I may have forgotten a few) -
meh, could be faster if I did some stuff
-
EDit;
It is funny though that I disabled Asus fast boot and all startup programs, services left alone, and my boots on several attempts went up too 36-42 seconds. It felt slightly slower to boot as well but just slightly.......... -
Right, that's why I said more accurate. It's still not accurate.
-
here's mine
full loaded
services & startups disabled
Dell Vostro 1400 T9300 ,4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm WD3200BEKT
7 ultimate x64 on 2nd OS partition -
I've been doing that...maybe it's a post count thing? Can't post pictures until it's high enough? To prevent people from spamming with inappropriate material?
Also, mine was on a fresh install after I tweaked windows startup a bit...but I only disabled a few services at the time. -
Post your Windows 7 Boot Time (tweaks allowed)
