It was a clean install a few months ago. I've since installed many programs and filled it with about 80gb of stuff. Ran Boottimer two or three times.

Btw, disabling Intel AMT in the bios dropped a whole second off the time in both normal and lean config. I've left it turned off.

Sorry for typing your name as Laker85 in the previous post. Dunno where I got that from. :p

I'm not familiar with 'Intel AMT'. Although, if you only ran boottimer 2-3 times your time drop is more likely due to the just another run of the app. Run it again and I'll guess it's faster again.

Run it a few more and see. I believe I ran mine 10+ before it leveled.

The first time represents my standard Windows 7 configuration: a clean install with a few services and features turned off. All applications and games customary to my usage are installed (~25GB).

The second time represents my standard Windows 7 configuration with all non-Windows services and start up applications disabled via MSConfig.

Specifically I have disabled the following:
    - Windows Search
    - Indexing Service
    - System Restore
    - Tablet PC Components
    - Superfetch
    - Prefetch
    - NVIDIA Display Driver Service

Nice. What if you disable all services and startup items?

After doing it so many times, I've become lazy. A shame though, this C300 could be faster than my previous drive.

I am really lazy myself as well :D
I usually do it only if I have to format my drive for a reason.
I am pretty sure the C300 could do at least 6 sec, at this point I wouldn't mind if desktops participated as well (just out of curiosity)

no, it is a program that times the windows boot starting when the hard drive starts its boot sequence

so it is isolated from the bios (my laptop has a SLOW bios but I got a pretty fast time :) )

Yeah, same here. My startup to log in screen takes about 7-8 seconds. But BIOS takes another 10 seconds as well. :(
I'm running on Vista, as it says on my signature.

Hmmm, good to know that Les, at least that will give the opportunity for users with slower CPUs to compete for the top3 (provided they have a very fast SSD and apply a couple of tweaks).

A faster CPU does pay off for a normal boot. But the way we do it here, with maximum tweaks, the CPU isn't that important.

I don't know if it doesn't matter at all.

    The X201T I'm on:

    - 19 seconds from pressing the power button to the logon screen
    - 41 seconds from pressing the power button to logging on using the fingerprint reader, launching Word 2010 and being able to type
    - If you're aiming for a completely worthless time by measuring the time taken from the 'Starting Windows' showing to the logon screen, then 14 seconds from post-BIOS to logon screen.

    The 17-inch '09 (3Ghz) Macbook Pro I'm also on:

    - 57 seconds from pressing the power button to the logon screen
    - 1:21 seconds from pressing the power button to logging on using a password, launching Word 2010 and being able to type
    - Again for a completely worthless measurement, then 17 seconds from post-BIOS to logon screen.

X201T has Intel X25-M G2 160Gb. Mac has OCZ Vertex 250Gb. No boot optimisation in either, pretty similar software loadout.

Due to the way Boot Camp works (i.e. yet another crappy compromise compared to a real, better Windows machine), I'm inclined to call shens on anyone claiming a 40-second W7 real boot time on a Mac, especially with an HDD...

*Times may vary by a second or so due to twitchiness of thumb on stopwatch

The only other tweaks are no services or startups and no GUI on boot.

I guess with the ICH10m and SSD issues we are about done here? I was real happy though to see a drop from 12.199 to 10.514 just by having 124GB for the c:\ drive and the rest for storage as the e:\ drive. Now at 1.685 seconds or 16% faster for free at anything will always make me happy........... :)

10 seconds boot with Seagate XT. That's pretty spectacular.

I'm very happy. I only disabled the GUI on bott besides programs and services. I know there are other tricks to get even more out of it but I just wanted to re-enable by stuff and have a normal boot. Even with everything enabled it is faster than before...........

gt 25 seconds on C300.. done a ton of tweaks.. maybe the amount of start up programs don't help.

If you really want a fast time you need to do a clean install.

With the amount of hardware in your laptop it might be hard to do get under 10 sec.

Nice, it's really fast, especially the POST (it took 5 sec from power on to complete check at 1:02-1:07 or 3:00 -3:05).
On the other hand, is it me or the icons of the network, the volume, etc... are missing from the taskbar? I hear no sound I see no network activity (no icon trying to detect a wired or wireless network, no removable devices, etc...) so in what way is this OS default? Something is not right with the video... they should mention what drivers, what services are loaded and what hardware have they left active on the UEFI (if they deactivated all the peripherals like soundcard, wifi, ethernet, bluetooth and Windows do not detect them at all of course it's going to be fast)

Been trying to cut down on my startup time. Messing around with the services and I noticed that if I disable windows audio I could cut down my start up by 10 seconds. I know that we need this service but it looks like this particular service is whats slowing down my startup time. With windows audio enable my start up time is 32 seconds, without it its down to 22 seconds. This is on a Intel ssd G2 gb80. The only startup programs I have enable is quickset (dell) and MSE. Any suggestion

That's interesting that your boot times are 32sec with the Intel X25-M. Mine are around 15-17 seconds. Right after a clean install, my boot times are 12seconds. Granted, I don't like a lot of programs to run at startup. Just rainmeter, nokia pc, suite, nokia sync, gcal sync, smartdefrag, virtual clone disc, and Avast. All other programs are "made to wait", since I have the same SSD, I don't like things to preload, like iTunes featurs, office, java...

Have you gone through some of the steps to optimize your SSD performance? Disabling superfetch and prefetch are the first to come to mind. Those two shave quite a bit of time from booting.

Disabling indexing also has a significant impact.

Really? For boot up times? I had only read about it in regard to unnecessary writes to the SSD. That's interesting.

I played for a while with indexing off and then back on. I preferred what it did in how I prefer to search vs not having it working on my side.

I got this from Soluto ? Anti-Frustration Software

It's software that analyzes boot times. Pretty interesting.

What an interesting tool! So, indexing accounts for 0.8sec of my boot time.

I appreciate the layout. It makes it easier to understand what's happening.

At first I was really enthusiast about it but I couldn't find an easy way to disable it. I got the impression it was always running. Was i wrong?

Are you talking about Indexing or Saluto? :p

I think Saluto is always running. Interesting... it calculates total boot time. The time it takes to load everything, even though you're able to use Windows. I "delayed" a few of my programs that I do use, but could wait until after boot. It actually made my boot time longer. When I put them back into boot, my boot time dropped. Wierd.

Still, fun to play with. Very straightforward.
