So I usually run with the High Performance power plan in vista, but every once in a while I notice that I'm on Power Saver. Does anyone know why my computer is switching and how I can stop it?

Do you ever run the computer on battery only?

Sometimes, but I don't think it's related. After all, each power plan has settings for "on AC" and "on battery"

When does it switch? When you are on AC or battery? Do you notice it switching when you unplug AC power, etc.

Apparently, it boots up in Power saver no matter what I log off in. Putting it in sleep mode doesn't do it, but when the computer first starts up it's in "power saver"

Does it boot up in Power Saver all the time, or just some of the time?

All the time lately, I think... I've just started connecting the dots... I've been noticing it for a few weeks.

So, I guess I need to rephrase the question.

Why does my laptop always boot up in "Power Saver" mode?

Have you recently done a BIOS upgrade or changed any of the BIOS settings?

I have... But I just checked the BIOS and can't find any settings that would apply. Am I missing something?

We're all missing something :D, although probably not something relevant to your problem. :D

Have you checked your startup options to see if there's any sort of a task scheduled to run at bootup that involves power management?

Couldn't find power management stuff in BIOS... Which makes since since I have Win7 on Dual Boot which sets to a different power plan.

I went into MSConfig and the only startup program that looked like it could be the problem is RMclock, but RMclock starts up after I can already see the power plan. The boot tab in MSConfig doesn't have anything helpful either that I can see.

Ok. Is there anything that's getting logged to the event logs at startup that looks like it might be related to power management - either an information item, a warning item, or an error item?

Nope, but that event logger is cool... hadn't seen it before.
