I have an issue with powermizer in windows 7...

I've downloaded powermizer switch and made it add the reg entries to make sure they are there, and it works but every time i resize a window, just a little, the clocks changes to max and the fan becomes noisier which i wanna avoid...

Does anyone know how to do so it is like in Vista where the clocks are at lowest at all times except when playing a video or a game?

    Thanks

It will be interesting to know, but I disable (nVidia) Powermizer in Windows 7 RC. Too buggy to even want to try it.

    cheers ...

Well im not really looking for disabling it, that wouldn't be a problem.

From what I heard and read over the grapevine, this PowerMizer can fry one's notebook with the crazy and not-so-accurate readings :D

    cheers ...

? It simply just downclocks the gpu like the cpu downclocks itself...

    What is your GPU model?
What and where did you get the video card drivers?
Does this problem occurs in Vista?

Why did you install the powermizer switch for? That switch is just used to lock your GPU to 100% clocks.

Powermizer comes standard with the Nvidia drivers.

By default laptop have PowerMizer turn on, but adding the powermizer settings allows editing the powermizer. However, the items for powermizer are different between GPU's models, and the proper way to do it, is to use Nv GPU Pro (my software) which detects the GPU and do things properly.

However, it doesn't mater, as by default it should be turned on.

Well sure its turned on (lol was my post THAT unclear?) but it clocks up at wrong times, meaning that it should only clock up when in games or videos, not when moving a darn window around.. if powermizer somehow could ignore dwm.exe, it'd work i guess..

I'll try out Nv gpu pro, thanks!

I don't think my software will work for several reasons:
1- By default powermizer is on and teh end result was not satisfying, making you seek a powermizer tweak tool
2- You used a different tool which may have screwed up the video card configuration and may confused NvGPUPro, which may result in a BSOD, stability problem or nothing at all, as it may apply the settings for the wrong video card type. There are 2 ways to solve it: The first way is to uninstall the display drivers, download the latest ones, restart your computer, and finally install the new one, the second method is from Nv GPU Pro, you click on "override disabled option" under the "PowerMizer" panel, then you UNCHECK "Enable PowerMizer settings", click on "Set", then restart your computer. Now, open Nv GPU Pro once more, and now CHECK the "Enable powerMizer" checkbox, and click on Set, and restart your computer to see it under effect. The first method is recommended.

Ah, well you can disable transparency when on battery and power saver.
Simply set your system power to "power saver", unplug your system, then go in the option and disable transparency, close all panels (important). Then plug your system back, go in the options and turn on transparency. Now, if you unplug your system it should disable transparency, and when you plug it back, transparency comes back. Note, this works in Win7, but I never tried in Vista.

Assuming that you have the LATEST Mobile (laptop) drivers from Nvidia website: The problem is that your GPU has a hard time drawing Aero, it needs more power. But actually I am surprised, as a Geforce 9300M has no problem, which should be slower than your 8600M. In any case, what you can also do, is follow my over clock guide, but INSTEAD of overclocking, you slide the bars to the lowest speed possible by your video card. This will FORCE the GPU to stay at the slowest speed, and then when you game, you set it to automatically load the DEFAULT profile (which is the normal default speed of your GPU). If you do this, you must completely disable PowerMizer (please, use Nv GPU Pro to do this), else it will override it.

HANG ON! You said that your GPU increase speed when you are on battery? That means that the GPU doesn't know when your system is plug-in or not. I just hope it's a driver issue.

well when my clocks are at the lowest it runs aero fine, it has no reason to clock up, it didnt do that in vista... nvidia is really horrible at making drivers.

nha, I saw horrible. Check out Creative sound card X-Fi. Not only it's super heavy, takes forever to install, but it also significantly slows down your windows startup, doesn't support new version Windows without a big fuzz to force them to do it, and let's not forget the all the conflicts it creates with people system unless you are using a system is older than the X-Fi or lucky. And let's not forget the numerous deleted thread, people banning for asking help on the issue on their forum.

Compared to that, Nvidia drivers are excellent.

Strangely I don't have this issue at all, unless I run flip3D for several seconds (like actually flipping all the time for like 5-10sec), and I only have a Quadro NVS 160 (like a Geforce 9300M) on my laptop.
