I've posted a thread about this issue before and never resolved it so I'm going to try again. I am trying to open a large .ppt file (~95 MB) from my desktop and am unable to do so. It immediately goes into the "not responding" state when I attempt to open it. When I try to end the process in task manager it won't close. I eventually have to do a hard shutdown of my computer to get it to close because the shutdown process freezes.

However, when I start in safe mode I am able to open the document, no problems.

Is there another program on my computer that is stopping my .ppt document from opening during normal startup? I'm really at a loss here. I can open the document on my work computer (which has a slower processor and less RAM).

All help will be much appreciated!

    Thanks

The only thing that I can think of is that I do a lot of editing of this document at work. That computer has XP OS and Office 2002. My home computer has Vista Home Premium and Office 2003.

    Thanks for the help!!!

Do you have any special objects embedded in that PowerPoint (i.e. Movies or special drawing objects, equations etc. created using an external application) ? I’m not talking about normal images, shapes or word art text (basically anything you can make with PowerPoint’s built features).

Also try saving it in an older format using the "save as" option (i.e 97 or 2000).

Yes, I have many many images. Mostly images that were edited in paint and then copied into powerpoint. A few images from the Vista snipping tool.

I'll try saving it as an older document.

Go on control panel, programs and features, and uninstall microsoft office and install it again. Backup the files before ;)

As I said, I'm not referring to normal images, I'm asking if you have any special drawing objects like CAD diagrams or Visio diagrams etc.. anything that might have a dependency with another application other than powerpoint. and movie objects. Normal images shouldn't be a problem.

No special drawing, objects, images, etc, no luck with re-installing Office, and no luck saving the document in an older format.

Seems as this is not going to be an easy fix. Not sure what to do now. I don't know if Dell will support this issue even with my warranty. If not, off to microsoft.

    Thanks for all your help!
