I was just wondering if there is any way to change the preset wallpaper (in my case it's an acer wallpaper) that appears before the windows welcome screen every time I restart the computer? It just annoys me for some reason. I'm hoping that there is a way to change it to one of my choice or to avoid it appearing altogether.
    Thanks

The boot screen? If so then yes, try the program called BootSkin.

It's not the boot screen, and I think the only way to do it would be to restore with a CD other than the ACER OEM restore discs/partition. If you did it with a Generic Win XP cd that would get rid of it.

Maybe there's a registry key to change?

I'm guessing you currently have Active Desktop enabled or have a .png format wallpaper on as your main wallpaper?
Just change the format of your main wallpaper to jpeg or gif or disable active desktop and the Acer one will vanish.

There should also be a registry entry which you can change to disable the startup wallpaper. But try the suggestion by Budding before searchig for the registry entry.

There is a program called RegToy that will help you to change the wallpaper your talking about.

You can also use the TweakUI utility in the WindowsXP Powertoys group of programs (really nifty toys... includes a ClearType utility, a much nicer calculator than the default as well, many other things) Look under the Logon->Settings area in the TweakUI utility to copy your current wallpaper to the logon desktop.

Right click on your desktop, go to Properties>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web and make sure everything is unchecked.

Hmmm, that didn't seem to work. How do I access the desktop backgrounds folder so I can modify them?

Are you sure its not the bios logo? the only way through that would be a bios flash and not recommended esp for a new user. GL

No its not the bios. Its after the bios, windows xp bootup, just before the welcome screen. The acer desktop wallpaper appears for about 5-10 seconds before the welcome screen comes on. It still shows this same wallpaper even when I change my desktop wallpaper in the display settings. This also happened with my compaq notebook last year.
Any other solutions, or do i just have to live with it?

It's called the login screen desktop. Did you look into TweakUI and do that setting I told you? It will fix it, I promise!

Thanks you so much for the tip. It worked perfectly. I must have missed your earlier post.
