Never, ever download an operating system from a torrent site. Not only is it illegal you also risk malware and viruses. ;)

I know a guy that did that. Worked fine for him. But who knows, maybe he does have a virus now.

I think I also remember an OSX download from there that did have a confirmed virus.

So it's risky. I'm not sure if it's illegal. Because you can still use your own product key so that may make it ok. I have no idea really.

There isn't much of a difference between Home Premium and ultimate. Not worth the risk.

While it's certainly not illegal to download an OS via torrents (many Linux distributions do this), I agree you're opening yourself up to virus/malware issues. When in doubt, verify the MD5 checksums..

    Correct Answer! :)
You might also verify the SHA Checksums as well and compare the file sizes.
To make a iso with MD5 + SHA + same filesize identical to the original is very^10 difficult hence you can consider it clean when all the above info is checked and correct.

Do a search on this site for ways to download a legal copy of Vista. You can also PM the originator of the thread below as he also did one for Vista. :)

Very true but what a pain downloading only to find whether its trouble or not. Much better to search for the thread on NBR to download Vista legally. ;)

    Just on a side note.
Linux may be distributed via peer to peer - but Winows isn't.

It has been pointed out that the people who share the iso are technically breaking the EULA as they have no right to distribute it.

Also: If you have a legitimate license - I'm sure you can get a replacement disc either from Microsoft or your OEM.

stonesrubber, please keep in mind discussion of pirated software is against forum rules (most .iso torrents contain a crack or such). Downloading it from torrents has risks from embedded viruses/malware within the image or crack.

Basically all Vista installation discs contain all the versions (Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate). The license key you enter will install the version you are entitled too.

Best way to get a hold of it is off a friend. Also try requesting 64bit discs off your notebook manufacturer.
