Start menu search bar, i prefer leaving my desktop and taskbar rather bare, it's an OCD thing and i tend to open many different programs (read not the same set of programs over and over) often so i'd rather have the taskbar free for those. I still keep my 3-5 most used programs pinned to the taskbar.

I use pinned programs on the taskbar for everything but games...it may be because I used OSX for so many years (the dock is kind of like that). For games, I use the start menu search bar.

All my frequently used stuff is pinned to the taskbar.

Other stuff is a mixture of using the start menu search, pinned to the start menu, or "all programs".

Some are pinned to taskbar, some in start menu. And a few shortcuts (3 to be exact) on the desktop.

Taskbar + ObjectDock for my most often used/most important programs, customized Start Menu hierarchy for rarely used utilities/accessories (no more than three clicks to reach anything). I practically never use Start Menu Search.

P.S.: I can see what you are trying to do here... ;)

Taskbar pins, Desktop shortcuts, and Start menu search.

    Metro UI cannot replace these.

Let's keep this thread focused on the poll questions and poll results. The relevance to Windows 8 can be addressed in one of the numerous Windows 8 threads.
