Is there any way that I can print a document as a PDF file to be saved onto my hard drive. At my school, I have seen a function similar to this on the Macs, and I was wondering how to do it on my PC.

If you install OpenOffice.org, you can export most office documents directly to PDF. Otherwise, you may consider looking into setting up a Ghostscript PDF printer to create PDF's from any input they get (print from any program). That can be somewhat complex, but it's the only way other than paying for something like Adobe Acrobat.

If you have Office 2007, you can install this....

How about with GoogleDocs(FREE) and no installation required. Upload your document, then download it as a PDF then print. ;D

There are several free PDF conversion programs that you can use to do it. Check the Free Software thread above.
As noted above, you can also use Open Office and Word 2007 to save in PDF format. -
I use CutePDF(Ghostscript PDF "e"printer) but there is another called doPDF(also mentioned in the sticky)
<object width='425' height='344'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tHETI3K-t3E&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tHETI3K-t3E&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height='344'></embed></object>
(example of how it works-CutePDF is very similar)...

You don't need anything special to print to PDF. I believe all you need is adobe installed. You just go to print..like you're going to "print" to a printer...and in the printer section you should see "Adobe PDF". This works for MS Office 2003, 2007 even Google Chrome!
PS: Printing a document or web page to PDF will actually "save" the document as a PDF! -
With Foxit you can add Foxit PDF Creator:
