Your videos don't have to be password protected to be private. Just sign in to YouTube, go into your Privacy settings, and select:
"Allow only friends to send messages or share videos."

you add them to your friendlist?

In some cases it might be best if you just try - just use a 1MB or so file (whatever the minimum limit is) and see what happens.

Record the desk for 30 seconds with your mobile etc.

two options: one is to share with your youtube friends. the other is to get a private link that you can send around. it won't get listed on the the main page (and can't be searched for), and maybe even can't get embedded (but i'm unsure about that, haven't read the details).

    those two options are it.

There is a way to stop people from embedding videos - it can be switched off - but I'm not sure how, I've seen it on public videos though.

Sounds like a better option for you may be to encode the video yourself and upload it to a file share site.

This way you can lock the archive with a password, and only the people you give the url too can get the file anyways.

Plus the best reason in my opinion is you can actually have a high quality video instead of the butchard youtube stuff.

Youtube is for mass sharing, since thats not your goal I think this alternative is better.

I have videos on rapid share, I put some of them on there + youtube so people can download a high quality version in addition to watching the youtube version.

youtube has 1080p now, so the quality is fine :)

but yeah, an archive with a password would work nicely.

    1080p???

I know they have 720p and the problem is not the resolution its the crappy encoding and bitrate, its still night and day between a well done 720p file and what they stream

Its the nature of the beast you wont stream super high bitrate stuff.
