Alright, I've had it!![]()
Short of slipstreaming an XP disc (which I really don't want to do), I cannot get XP to use SATA native HDD modes. I have a floppy drive, but the driver listed on HPs site for SATA mode doesn't work for some reason.
Using the floppy method, my A: drive has two choices for SATA mobile drivers. I've tried both, and neither works. Another forum member I am chatting with is reporting the same issues!
My chipset uses the 82801HBM (ICH8-M) Southbridge on a GM965 chipset...any help??? Ideally, I'd like to load the SATA drivers from within XP and be able to reboot and just run from there...but I don't know if that is possible at that point...

Wait, so you have Vista and you're trying to install XP, correct?

Have you tried going into the bios and changing SATA operation from AHCI to ATA?
-
That's the point. Any time I enable SATA mode XP will BSOD right away...

I found the problem...turns out that the floppy has several SATA drivers on it, and I was choosing the wrong one.

Hi, I am considering an upgrade from Vista to XP Pro as well. I know XP Pro will not take the SATA disk. I want to enable the AHCI in my BIOS because I think it gives better performance (will it give in xP Pro as well?).
My question is, I cannot slipstream the drivers on the XP Pro CD, so while XP Pro is loading, will it give me an option to load the SATA driver from the hard-disk or another disk (the drivers DVD, which I will put in for the moment), like Vista does? Or will Ih ave to slipstream or use a floppy/USB drive? I don't have a USB drive, and there is no floppy drive in my notebook.
Thank you. -
Assuming you have access to a running computer with a burner Slipstreaming is easy. It copies your original disk to drive, embeds the SATA drivers and burns a new disk. You can even do the SP2 and other hotfixes right into the install so you don't need to do that after install.
Google slipstream XP and you'll find loads of docs on how to do this. Several right here on NBR too.
However, if you are already installed and trying to get XP back into native SATA mode (switched off in the bios) you can try this procedure documented on HP's site.

I have everything till SP2 slipstreamed in the XP Pro CD. It's just I don't want to create a new disc for XP Pro with SATA drivers in it, IF I can do it with some other method.
Problem getting XP to work with SATA...
