I'm running Windows Vista and I'm having a problem installing software via the optical drive. The error I get is as follows:

Could not load the DLL library
    C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Temp\Inst.dll.
The specified module could not be found.

I google searched for the inst.dll file but the only info I could get on it is that it could possibly be exploited so anti-virus and anti-adware may remove it. If it helps, I use AVG and Ad-Aware.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Does this happen with any software? Would a re-install be too much hassle?

AVG and ad-aware aren't known for having much power at all so i doubt they'd do something that intrusive. Also, is it a software cd or just some .exe files? If it's just .exe then copy and paste it to your desktop and install from there. Also, by his setup i think he has 64-bit.

Since the DLL is supposed to be in the temp folder, that's probably some part of the installer (otherwise, that would be a mightly strange place for a DLL). If that's the case, it kinda sounds like a bad installation package looking for a DLL it possibly forgot to include. What is this "software" you are trying to install?

I have the 32-bit Windows Vista.

I haven't had any problems installing other software but to be honest the last time I used my optical drive it was to do a clean install of Vista.

The software I'm using is from 2005 and it doesn't mention anything about Vista so it may be a compatibility issue. Also, the software is an add-on to excel 97-03 and I use 07.
