I have Vista 32 bit and for some reason Im encountering problems .. Im really not sure what the problem is, which is why I'm coming here.
I looked on the help page on Microsoft and they said maybe it has to do with drivers .. but you guys know how their FAQ are .. they arent good for anything sometimes![]()
The main thing that got me to realize I had a problem was playing a .wmv file in VLC Player .. this is obviously wrong because VLC basically can play any format. I've tried this in WMP and I got an error message as well.
Can someone help me please.
Thank you

I forgot to mention:
I tried playing the example videos and they still didn't work. Basically, I can hear the sound and everything, but the video itself turns up white. WTF!? lol
Please help. Thanks -
go to vlc player in your Vista start menue, click on quick settings folder and set video to directX.
-
So go to VLC Player in Start, right click? Where is Quick Settings
-
not right click. theres a sub folder in there called quick settings or somthing like that and set video to direct X
-
That didnt work for some reason .. did you have the same problem?
-
Does anyone know what the problem is?
-
This wmv file, is this coming from the net (streaming), or is it already on ur drive?
VLC player, u called this via a browser? or u start VLC first?
cheers ... -
Its streaming and even the example videos that come with the computer don't work .. I got it to work on Windows Media Player but not on VLC. Still the white screen appears where the video should be, but for some reason I can hear the sound.
I'm calling VLC via the program not the browser. There isnt an error message, I just know its not working because I cant see anything but white. -

to clarify the steps:
. open VLC
. Preferences
. click on Video settings
. click on output modules
. right bottom corner, check advanced options
. the video output module dialog will show up
. select DirectX
. save it
. restart VLC
