You need to use nLite to slipstream the SATA drivers onto XP.

Not sure about all the procedures found in this forum. All I did to "downgrade" back to vista is boot my machine from the DVD drive with the XP disk. Everything went smooth and easy. Anything wrong with the way I did it?

no, nothing will say downgrade. that is a term we use to kind of poke fun.

just put the xp disk into your dvd drive, restart the computer, and enter your boot menu.

My T61p came with XP Professional recovery disks....if yours did, use those and uninstall the bloatware after the automatic reinstall.

hell, i used a XP reinstall disk from my girlfriends old gateway laptop from 2002. booted my dell from disk, installed XP and no problem at all. after xp was installed i got my driver disk that came with my current computer and installed all the drivers. got online, and had to download XP SP2 because the xp disk came out before that! haha. after that i downloaded SP3 and any other updates and now i am sitting pretty with 0 problems.

You can check the BIOS for a 'SATA Native' option and select Disable. Then set the correct boot order DVD first, HDD later.

    Try it.
