When I open a link in a new tab or window, the entire window doesn't open, only the toolbars.
So, for example, when I open IE for the first time, I see the toolbars along the top of the monitor and my desktop, but not the page.
I discovered that I could open the rest of the window by clicking the "Retore Down" icon in the top right side of the Toolbar. I never had this problem until recently.
I want to repair IE7 but there is not an option. And because Microsoft recognizes that I have IE, I can not download a new copy with either IE or FireFox. I can't uninstall IE either.
I think this started happening when I did a Windows update (sigh). A system restore hasn't changed the situation.
This is so annoying as my work is browser-based. My OS is Vista.
Does anyone know a solution?

Yup, switch to using Firefox! It's probably a settings change - you might want to go to options and tinker a bit

Thank you, but for me your suggestion is not a viable one. I prefer using IE and want to fix the problem, not ignore it.
I reviewed the options and, unless I missed it, saw nothing that addressed this particular issue.
My IE windows are just not opening correctly. Hope someone can suggest a fix. -
can you post a screen shot?
never met anyone who prefers to use IE -

Then you haven't met many people. ;-)
A screen shot of the problem is kinda pointless, because all you see is the window (or destop) under it. However, I'm attaching a screen shot which shows how the window opens incorrectly in another respect. When I click on the link to this post in GMail, see (near the top) how the window fails to open fully.Attached Files:

btw, I run a fairly large website and do my work using a web based Content Management System. When working on the site, I'm in constant need to open new windows for updating pages, etc. I need the pages to open maximized. Windows when opening a hard drive based program are just fine.

its hard to see what exactly you're talking about, but it sounds like you're having a problem with screen drawing? if so, i would check out anything that has to do with themes or skins or "customizing your desktop" in any way

Thank you. I'll give all the suggestions a try.

I like IE better, in fact I let firefox go because it decided to delete all my bookmarks 2 times in 3 month (2 different windows installation). -
Did you install any add-ons, plugins, skins etc? Are you able to disable them, any other processes running that you're not familiar. It seems like a program is resizing your windows when you first launch it. What's your home page set to?
