Problem with Microsoft SQL 2005

I thought this would be more relevant here than in the gaming forum, so here goes. I had to reinstall Windows, and while DA:O reinstalled just fine, I haven't been so lucky with the toolset. Whenever I try to start it up, it says it can't connect to the database and closes. I have been through the following procedure twice:

1. Uninstall Dragon Age Toolset via native uninstaller
2. Uninstall Microsoft SQL VSS writer via Programs and Features
3: Uninstall Microsoft SQL Setup Support Files (English) via Programs and Features
4: Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Native Client via Programs and Features

Each time I try to reinstall the toolset, when it tries to reinstall SQL, I get the following error message:

An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. To proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
