    Hi,

After owning my Sony S460 for a few weeks, it had worked flawlessly until yesterday. When i turned it on, after the desktop loads, something pops up that says "Windows is preparing to install Norton..." and then a second window pops up and say "Norton does not support 'repair' feature, please uninstall and reinstall Norton". After i close these two windows, everything works fine. Norton works fine. I don't know why those two windows pop up everytime i turn on the laptop.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

This might be spyware or a virus trying to make changes to NAV. You may want to try uninstalling NAV and then re-install and see if this fixes it. If not, there could be something else at work in the background. You may want to try scanning your system for spyware.

You should also check yuo startup files/settings and see if the NAV install is set to run at bootup. You an run MSCONFIG and look in the startup section.

If it is a virus, it may be trying to get you to uninstall Norton, then when you try and reinstall it you may have problems because of the virus

Did you happen to try moving Norton into a different folder within the start menu. Did you try in any way to reorganize your all programs list. Sometimes when I have a lot of programs installed, you'll see quit a list with the all programs listed and people sometimes such as myself will reorganize and condense the list. I noticed that when I "moved" Norton 2005, I was getting the same error message. When I put it back by itself, the message no longer appeared.

I had the exact same problem. But after moving the norton folder around in the "all programs" menu, it stopped. :)
This must mean that it's not a virus or anything of that sort...
    Thanks kap78.

No problem The R. I have a small computer repair business. When I first installed Norton 2005 I was not getting that message. Once I moved it, I was getting that error message. Took me a while to figure it out, but once I thought about putting it back to where it was originally installed, problem was gone.

Not sure why Norton 2005 is doing this. I didn't look into that much further after I found the solution. It's possible there could be ways to move it around, but I'm not going to bother since it's just one program. I think I read that it had something to do with the registry entries on this version.

I renamed the folder in the "start" list from "Norton Internet Security" to "Norton" and that turns out to be the problem as kap72 described. That is so weird because it's just a shortcut folder.

    thanks guys! :)
