Hi i have a Gateway T-1616 and am just about fed up with it.

Ever since i first got this laptop i have been bouncing in between vista ultimate and windows xp each one giving me problems of their own. (vista being slow and xp not being meant for this comp. so there for driver problems.)

ON my latest and "hoped" to be final decision and install of vista ultimate i have been having the issue of waking from sleep and NOT being able to connect to a wireless network.. The network module just seems to freeze up not letting me right click on it or anything.
After that happens i usually attempt to restart and this will always seem to fix the problem. Only problem i have with restarting or shutting down the laptop is that many times it always seems to hang on the shutdown screen and i am forced to hold down the power button.

Please inform me of any fixes you may have to this very annoying problem.

    Thanks!
    Jack

    P.S.
The laptop has not been upgraded since factory. EXCEPT for
    1gb to 4gb ram
    160gb to 250gb HDD

All which have been part of any other installations and i have never had this problem before.

upgrade the wireless drivers, and if you have a bios update for the laptop, do that as well.

You may need the wireless drivers from your adapter manufacturer

You can also try to review to see if the wireless device is being allowed to be turned off to save power in the device properties.

    cheers ...

Also check for updates to your chipset drivers - if you read through the errata datasheets from Intel on their chipsets, you'll see that there are a lot of problems and issues with losing various functionalities after waking the system from sleep or one of the other reduced power states (ok, ok, so I lead a very boring life - it's called married with children, I believe :D).

Thanks i woudl like to check this but am not sure how to. Can you guide me through the process?

I updated the wireless drivers still getting the problem. I updated the bios but havent tried to put it in sleep for a period of time (usually overnight or a few hours.)
I will check back on that one.

LOL. You lead a normal life... =)
Are there any ways to resolve these issues or is it just that the may mention them?

Chipset issues, if they exist, are usually resolved by means of a chipset driver update, or sometimes a BIOS update/workaround - which generally means you have to wait for your OEM and/or Intel to get around to fixing the bug.

RE: wireless adapter turned off for power saving

Start > right click COMPUTER, choose MANAGE, choose DEVICE MANAGER, choose NETWORK ADAPTERS, right click your wireless adapter, choose PROPERTIES, choose POWER MANAGEMENT tab, uncheck all 3 boxes

Thanks a million. i had a problem that now i cant open device manager but i got it by using the command from "run".
Anyhow there where only 2 boxes in that tab and one was checked (turn off device to save format.)

I hope this will resolve my issue because this single problem has got me fed up beyond belief. I am ready to get a new computer due to sum minor problems this computer has been giving me.

Anyhow for now this seems to be a hopeful fix, and i will check back with any developements.

    Thanks a million!
