Hey everyone, I've done a quick google and forum search but I can't find anything relating to my particular issue and I was wondering if anyone else has experience something similar. What I find is that when I put a CD or DVD into my disk drive, Vista does not recognize the media and instead believes there is a blank disk with 0 bytes free. Funnily enough, I can still rip from CDs fine to WMP however a new CD requires me to fully close and restart WMP which can be annoying if I have many CDs to rip.

Vista will recognize the media if I allow it to boot with the CD in (which is how I recently managed to install WoW again) but this is hardly convenient and an OS should not behave in this way. During my search on google, I found that dual booting with XP and Vista can cause a problem however I have only dual booted with Ubuntu and Vista. The best advice I could find was to reinstall my DVD RW drive however this did not help at all.

Does anyone know of a potential way to fix this incredibly irritating problem? Thanks for your time and help!

Bump, hasn't anyone else experienced problems like this? The only thing I can think of it being would be a relic of dual booting but I no longer do this. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be really appreciated.

i've just encountered this exact problem when trying to install an old game on vista... it's very annoying isnt it!! I'm going to try the rebooting with cd inside which seemed to work for you... there must surely be a solution!
