Ok, I've searched the forums and I don't think I've stumbled on any explanations to this weird problem...or maybe I missed it while searching..

So, with my new laptop comes the new OS, vista that I am a complete noob to, I've spent the past 2 days figuring things out and getting used to it

The problem that I'm having is this "admin" issue.
I'm the "admin" of my computer, the only account actually, but for all these different programs, I'm not allowed to do things on them because it says that I need to be the admin to do so and so...

For example, I can't start up HD Tune because "HD Tune must be run as an administrator"

Oh btw, a little off topic:
I have word 2007 but I would like to save the word documents as .doc so that it's compatible with word 2003 but I don't want to have to go to the save as option and choose that option
Is there anyway to make .doc the default for word 2007?

[[[[EDIT: OK, I can get it run but I have to right click on HD TUNE and press "run as administrator", what is with this? can someone explain?]]]]]

    Thanks

In Vista permissions have changed a little. Even being an administrator does not give the user full access. There are some security reasons behind it but if you know what you are doing, you can turn off the UAC, or select "run as Administrator" for full access.

You can save Office documents in the 1997-2003 .doc, .xls, .ppt, etc formats in Office 2007 Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

Can I change the word 2007 settings so that it saves it in doc instead of docx everytime?

click on the office button on top left, choose WORD OPTIONS button on bottom right of dialogue box, go to SAVE section, click the SAVE FILES IN THIS FORMAT dropdown box and choose WORD 1997-2003 in this box, click SAVE

On your problem, in Vista you get used to selecting 'run as administrator'. You can set certain executables that way to run all the time as admin by right clicking the file, properties, compatibility and check off run as administrator. Then click 'apply'. There is a security reason behind most of it. I myself don't turn off UAC.
