For some reason, my laptop is not displaying certain characters as it should. For instance, from this page in Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_(number)
![]()
The 2 dots on the right side should be a '3'.
This is the code for the number 3 displayed as an apostrophe. I would really appreciate any help.

Tried with another browser?
cheers ... -
Have you removed any fonts from your system? Which browser are you using?
I am kind of surprised they can write so much about the number 3. -
Thanks for your responses. I have Vista-32 SP1 in my HP laptop. As a matter of fact, I've always have a problem with fonts in Vista. I used Chrome, Firefox and IE. And it's not just Wikipedia, the http://www.websudoku.com/ website looks like a bunch of symbols but not a single number.
Edit: I installed Vista from the 'Clean Vista install WITH NO ACTIVATION' in the HP area. -
Is this just in your browser?

Does anybody have a clue where can I find 'Times' font?
Edit: I don't understand, 'Times' is not a free font but since it's in Wikipedia and most browsers can display it, why can't I? -
I attached it for you.

Rename with .zip extension. -
Few things you can try to restore the fonts:
. Open Explorer and navigate to the Windows\Fonts folder.
. Right click a empty area in the same window
. Select "Install New Font"
. Left side under Folders: double click Windows then winsxs then Backup
. Wait for it to load then select your font.
. Check the Copy to Fonts folder then select Install
or
. Run "sfc /scannow" (no quotes) command to restore the deleted
font since it is considered a system file

(same for 32bits)

Thanks but the problem is with the font 'Times', Times New Roman fonts are displayed correctly.
See?
The S from 'September' is not displayed correctly and the numbers are not displayed either. The name of the fonts is 'Times'. -

In your browser's menu, what is the setting for View -> Character Encoding when you're viewing this page?
Try changing it to Unicode (UTF-8) and see if it makes any difference. -
Thanks stewie, I just did that but nothing was changed. I don't think it's just a browser problem because I'm having the same problem with 'Times' (not Times New Roman and Times 'anything else') font in MS-Office also.

I have had similar problems where the keyboard switches to displaying characters such as: `, è, é, È, or É
You can switch it back to normal settings by pressing Shift and then Ctrl. -

there is no font "Times" in a default windows installation.
how about just removing it and then look if that solves it. -
I don't have Times installed. But probably nobody else has and even though the coding is 'Times', everybody's computer can display that font. I also re-installed Times New Roman but that didn't fixanything

Adobe postscript Times fonts *.PFM will display as "Times" in word. I copied one of the Times fonts from the Adobe common files folders to the Windows\fonts folder to see how it displayed in word. I could not get the characters you got but the font did display as "Times" only as I mentioned.
I cannot duplicate your problem, I have tried to find a font that displays the characters as you indicated but no luck, sorry. -
Not sure if you tried this. Ive made you a .zip file with all 4 Times New Roman fonts. Extract them then drag and drop (or copy/paste them) into c:\windows\fonts and click yes to replace the ones you have since they might be corrupted somehow.
