    Well, here goes... haha..

A buddy of mine with an Asus g71 had his second drive split into two equal partitions... He wanted to delete the separate partitions and have one loarge drive. I have never done any data recovery but I know more than he does about this sort of thing... My problem is I can't find any situation like this...

He deleted the partition on the end of the drive and expanded the one on the front using Windows disk management... He then expanded the first one to use the whole disk... Unknowingly he deleted the partition with all his data on it... After all was said and done he delete the entire volume and created a new NTFS volume with a quick format...

I have tried several programs... Active partition recovery, testdisc, and now I have recover my files running on the most thorough scan trying to recover anything... It is about 20 minutes into the scan at the moment and hasn't found a single file...

I have been telling this guy for ages to back everything up on an external and offered my old 1TB external for him to use... oh well... I still wanna help the guy out... Any help you guys can give or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

If all he did was delete a partition, and then do a quick reformat (as opposed to an overwrite that was intended to wipe the blank space of the drive), you should be able to recover at least something from that drive.

Have you tried running Recuva on the drive? Also, let your friend know that it may take hours and hours to recover his stuff, depending on what condition things are in.

I got it going for him... I went through all the trouble cause he said his pictures and music were on there... I used getbackdata and was able to recover everything... THOUGH.......... There were no pictures... just funny videos, some old emails saved, and you guessed it... ... haha... but I tried recuva and those others to no avail... getdataback was the only one that found anything and it recovered everything very easily...
