So, I have a Windows Vista Home Premium. I turn on the computer and everything works perfectly fine. I can connect to the internet and do everything (I'm actually on it right now). However, in the bottom right corner, in the taskbar, the Wireless connection icon has a red X between the two small computer icons, as if i were not connected to the internet.

When I scroll over it, the popup notification box says
    "Connection Status unknown
    Server Execution Failed"

When I try to open up the "network and sharing center" in the control panel, the page takes forever to load, and when it's finished loading, i get a screen that says unknown at the top, and it also says "server execution error". In the Sharing and Discovery section, everything except password protected sharing is off. When this screen finishes loading, windows explorer freeze, and i can't go any further.

what do i do? what's the problem?

Seems like you're using a different software to manage your wireless connection and not windows? Are you using Intel's? or another vendor's software to manage your wireless connection? One usually over-rides the other.

    sskohsskoh,

Please don't start multiple threads of the same subject at the same time :). Since this one had a reply I'm keeping this thread here. Thank you for your cooperation :).

    okay, i won't.. i'll be good

but no i'm not using anything except windows to manage it

I asked HP customer service for help, and they said it might have been a windows update, but i updated and it didn't fix anything. and then they said it might be because i have to turn IPv6 off, but i didn't know how to do that without messing with the registry. and then they said it might be the drivers, and i reinstalled them, but nothing. and now they're saying it might be a virus?

Do you happen to have AIM6 installed? I ask because I had the same issue on my wife's machine, right after installing AIM. I checked on here and there was someone who had reported the same issue after installing AIM. Quick restore, and all is well and good.

    bingo.

AIM6 and Vista do not get along

had same problem, the only fix was a complete reinstall.

DO NOT USE THE "FIXES" FLOATING AROUND THE NET instructing users to play with user/group/services. Using those fixes present a security risk and DO NOT ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM.

    reinstall (or restore point)

posts 5 and 6 clearly indicate that simply removing aim6 does not fix the problem
