I not that computer savy and I have no idea about networks or things like that. I have basic knowledge but beyond that I am useless. Anyhow, I have a Xbox 360 and I want to connect it to my new laptop but everytime I try it says it has an error configuring or something. I don't have wireless so I know that my computer is connected to my modem via ethernet cable and I have Xbox live so I know that my 360 is connect to modem via ethernet cable. I don't know if you have to connect the xbox directly to the computer or what. The xbox is showing up on the network and everything and I got the code off of the 360 too and put it in my cpu and it went right up to the configuring part and then it stopped. I have configured my firewalls to the best of my knowledge and I have followed every instruction on this that I can find and still can't get anywhereMabey someone can give me step by step instructions through the whole process...It would really help!!!

Well if your talking about getting the 360 to access the web by connecting it to your laptop then you can do it by using a LAN Ethernet cable, just a bog standard RJ45 one will do, it doesn't need to be a cross-over either.
Just set your laptop so it accesses the web and the connection your using uses internet connection sharing. I do it with a T-Mobile and a Vodafone USB mobile internet dongle but if your laptop accesses the web via wifi it may be a bit more complicated and I can't advise you on that one because I've never done it. (Googling for how to setup internet connection sharing should give you many helpful results).
But if you want to view your Xbox 360 video output on your laptop you need a TV tuner card with an S-Video/Composite input (and you'll need the Xbox 360 cable with the S-Video/Composite outputs). The TV card needs to be either Cardbus or Expresscard. If your inspiron has an expresscard port I can't recommend anything, I'm still trying to get the TV tuner I have working with the PAL-60 output from a Xbox 360 (Works fine with the normal PAL-50 output though) (Note I'm in the UK so we have been forced to use PAL-60 and PAL-50 formats and I have no idea how well NTSC formats work).
If your inspiron has a cardbus port (which I doubt it has, it's more likely these days to have an expresscard) then I can recommend the Avermedia E501.
As for the Expresscard I have, it's an Avermedia A577, it doesn't work in XP (it won't scan digital or analog channels, or though occasionally it does pick up analog, nothing to do with he signal I have either as it works fine in Vista and Avermedia can't tell me why it won't work...) and the PAL-60 output from the Xbox 360 doesn't work properly and there is huge lag.
The Avermedia E501 I have on another laptop works great, virtually no or very little lag and it works fine in XP.
The problem I have with the Avermedia A577 may just be limited to me so I would recommend Avermedia products to you. Don't buy Huapagge WinTV one's, from the looks of it they're overpriced piles of rubbish.
Hope this has been of some help.
