My Intel Pentium 4 Mobile (Northwood) has a maxiumum, normal Core Clock speed of 2.0Ghz. However, I only get a 2.0Ghz CPU Clock Speed when I'm using the Maximal Performance setting in RMClock.

The Problem is, when I close the application, the CPU downclocks to a rather irritating 1.2Ghz. And when I leave the application running, according to the RMClock monitoring window, the CPU load is, on average 30 - 40%, just idle, with around 25 processes running in the background. But when the CPU is downclocked, CPU usage is only around 5%. Obviosuly, the CPU frequency multiplier also goes down from x 20 to x 12...

Why does it downclock? Is it the Intel Speedstep thing. If so, how do you get rid of it? I think I remember installing a driver for it...

    Thanks,
    Mayz
