I have a HP Pavilion zd8000 that came with Windows Media Edition. I recently ran the "Vista Compatibility" tool from MS and my laptop passed. I bought vista but am not able to install it. It says "Windows Setup cannot from Windows on this hardware" and then the computer simply shuts down.
Anyone had any issues like this?? Thanks

The zd8000 was designed & sold long before Vista's time . . . that's not saying you cannot run it, but not all of your hardware may work properly.
Are you booting from the CD? Try that. -
did u buy a normal vista licence or just an upgrade version?
whatever u do, remember to back up and research for ur current drivers, before embarking on the vista installation!

Thanks for the replies.
I purchased the full version, (not the upgrade) so I should be OK.
I am booting from the CD.
Any other thoughts? -
how much ram u have at the moment? 512mb might sometimes have a hard time

Hardware will not limit your ability to install Vista. There are plenty of cheapo laptops that come with vista and 512mb of ram. So no, Vista will not just say "ur hardware sucks, the installation is being terminated". There are other reasons why you can't do it, but lack of hardware power is not one of them. Sure Vista

I have 1 Gig of Memory. There is no reason why this should be failing... any other thoughts?

how about wiping clean (gpart live CD) the drive BEFORE starting ur CD installation?
