:confused2: I cleaned my hard drive due to the notebook moving slowly, freezing, etc., and have had problems reinstalling some components. During setup, the computer could not copy the files:

    dvdplay.exe
    kodak_dc.icm
    dwmdmsp.d11
    nikedrv.sys
    rio8drv.sys
    riodrv.sys
    spnike.d11
    sprio600.d11
    sprio800.d11
    srgd.icm
    streamci.d11
    tosdvd.sys
    tsbvcap.sys
    tsbyuv.d11
    usbcamd.sys
    usbcamd2.sys
    vdmindvd.sys
    wowfax.d11
    wowfaxui.d11
    fsvga.sys
    paqsp.d11
    usrcntra.d11
    usrcoina.d11
    usrdpa.d11
    usrdtea.d11
    usrfaxa.d11
    usrlbva.d11
    usrmlnka.exe
    usrprbda.exe
    usrrtosa.d11
    usrsdpia.d11
    usrshuta.exe
    usrsvpia.d11
    usrv42a.d11
    usrv80a.d11
    usrvoica.d11
    usrvpa.d11

I kept hitting esc and the computer prepared installation and was trying to install windows, but I received the Fatal Error:

An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information. Press OK to view the Setup log file.

When this came up it involved the signature for the D:\1386\NT5.CAT is invalid. The error code is 800b0100. No signature was present in the subject.

Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information.

What is the problem? Can I fix this?

    Thanks!

Sounds like you got a bad CD and it cant be read. If you have one try a different CD. Maybe from a friend. Do a clean format again. Dont try to resume setup.

New a new CD almost for sure.

Also, reformat the hard drive using a full NTFS format. No quick format or anything, because it is possible the installer also has to deal with bad sectors on the hard drive.

Greg, I tried the full format instead of the quick.

I wonder if your hard drive might be failing. Try to do a scan from a boot cd, to see if it has bad sectors.
