I know someone posted a very similar question, and I already checked it out, but my problem is a little different.
When I watch a DVD on my laptop, I can get about halfway through the movie just fine, but then it starts to lag and skip, and sometimes even shut the movie down (not the entire laptop or program, it'll just go to a menu screen for the program). The different between my problem and the other poster's is that s/he can eventually finish the movie, where I can't. Sometimes I can actually hear the DVD drive struggling.
For the record, when I watch something that's been downloaded from the internet, or is streaming from the internet, everything works just fine. It's just when I try to use the DVD drive.
My laptop is a Gateway, about 2 1/2 years old, and a very basic machine.
Oh, and I don't know if this is useful information or not, but I can't watch Netflix instant movies either. I called their tech support and they said that it was probably something to do with my graphics card  . I'm guessing that this may also be the culprit for my DVD problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I don't have an external DVD drive, but I'm going to try backing up the DVDs onto my hard drive and watching them that way. Thanks for your help.
