Hi I just recently installed microsoft office 2003 pro on my laptop but everytime i load it, it automatically stops working within a few seconds. I can't even print or change anything and can barely type and save before it crashes. I installed the SP2 service pack but it still hasn't fixed anything. The same thing happened with the trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 that was first on my computer. If someone could help me fix this i would really appreciate it because I am in college and really need Office...

I'm pretty sure he means sp2 for MS Office 2003. Vista sp1 is due out in Q1 of 2008. I'm not much help because I use Open Office too. Have you looked in your Event Viewer for any clues? Give a look and let us know what it says.

Reinstall O2003, and immediately install SP2 as well as ALL updates via Microsoft Update. I had the same problem until I did.

Did you remove office 2007 before you installed 2003? If not I bet that is part of the problem. If you DID NOT then you will probably have to uninstall both versions (2003 and 2007) and then reinstall 2003. It might be a good idea to clean your registry after removal to rid yourself of any leftover keys.

Greg's advice about 2003 is good advice. I've heard several people report issues with 2003 that did not have the latest service pack.

I know about O2003 issues from experience...that was when I discovered there was an SP2 pack because I'd never updated then!

As for O03 and O07 installed on the same machine...I'm almost certain some of the DLLs would be shared, which makes it likely that the problem would affect both versions. Deputy is right - uninstall both then install the one you want (O07 presumably).

Here's the wrench in the machine...
I got tied of the compatability problems. Sometimes the wizzard would work and sometimes not. I really did not want to buy all new software programs and even hardware acessories that may or may not work with Vista. Dell says that Microstink gave all the manufacturers a year to come up with software fixes but as far as all the stuff I own almost no one did. I just cant believe they put it out there in such an UNUSEABLE state soooo, I wiped my HD and did a clean install of XP Pro with SP2 and now this machine is freakin' screamin! Runs anything I trow at it with NO NO NO problems, NO compatability bull. Dell blows ya off when you ask for help, they suggest XP for business but XP was not an option when I bought this in the early part of 07... gee whiz. Oh yeah and I bought it in the small business section too.
If you want a machine to work x the Vista toy, keep your discs as if they come up with a fix (I'd call it SPrecovery or SPtotalrevamp instead of SP2) you may wanna switch back in a year or two.

PS: Mixcrosoft is making/saving a fortune with 100K beta testers out there
