Does anyone have problems with Video LAN locking up or freezing when watching a DVD?

    Any solutions?

    Thanks

    no problems.

what are your notebook specs and are you doing anything else while watching dvd?

have you tried the source file (dvd or whatever) with another player?

I'd look towards your codecs. Video LAN is just a shell...the basic player function. The ability to decode the file for Video LAN to display it is provided by the codecs(i.e. Divx, K-Lite, etc...).

If you don't remember installing any...start with the Divx one.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. I didn't install anything besides the basic program I downloaded.

Will it play RM, if you have the Real Alternative codecs? This is basically asking whether VideoLAN can use the general external codecs that are used by most other players, or whether it is limited to its own codec pack.

Nope. I tried it just after Christmas, and I just couldn't get it to work with Real Alternative. QT files worked fine, not sure if it was because it's built-in to VideoLAN (probably is) because I had Quicktime Alternative installed at the time.

I now use BSplayer for all of my files except for QT and RM, which are handled by Media Player Classic.

I use BSPlayer for everything, including RM (don't recall I had a single QT movie in the past 2 years or so).
